Updatin'

It's almost three in the morning.  Just about every night morning this week has lasted until two or three.  I'm in full-on vampire mode.  I'm making sure baby and I get our rest - sleeping in and/or taking cat naps here and there, but the baby bug has bit me and I'm having fun preparing, creating, cleaning and daydreaming.

Snipets of the past week...

We said goodbye to our tree this week.  Isn't it so much more fun to put the ornaments on
The needles managed to stay put much better than last year...remember our poor tree last January?

Steve threw it over the deck and put it in the front of the house with the rest of the trash.  Oh, our trash on Thursday - it was hilarious.  A Christmas tree, boxes galore and over a dozen trash bags (a result of my nesting madness).

The kitties and I snuggling by the tree one last time.

Mom's Christmas cookies...there's about 4 left.

Everyone knows I'm a crazy cat lady.  I've mentioned before that me (and my boss) take turns feeding the stray kitties at the offices I clean each week.  I often hang around a minute or two after filling their bowls - hoping to see at least one of them.  Tuesday, I turned to see a mama cat with her 3 minions trailing behind her.  I giddily broke out my phone to snap a pic and call Steve!  She was so sweet - watching over them, letting them eat all the food, while she sat back with nothing.  I had to go back in and grab her a bowl of food.
I promise, I won't mention cats again (for at least another photo).

Mr. surprised me with a dustbuster.  It's been getting a workout.

Back to cats?!
The flufflies always have to be where the action is.   Muffin sees a box and can't wait to make it her new home.  Twinkie sees, and grows very envious.

And feisty...

Cat attack!!

Still working on cooking and learning new recipes.  Happy to report no fires
still.

Our doorbell has been ringing all week - the UPS man giving the signal that there's a package at the door.  Opening new things for baby each day gives me such a rush and makes her due date seem that much sooner.

I bought our first bottle of baby detergent the other night.  I admit, I got teary at the grocery store.  Yes, I cried over detergent.  My friend, Kim, told me it's the best and smells so sweet.  She wasn't kidding.  I twisted the cap off, getting ready to wash the mattress pad, and instantly smelled "baby" (and got teary all over again).

Today, I stayed in.  It was a rainy day and I wanted to give my body a break.  I made a wreath for baby girl's room while watching trashy LMN movies.  I found out they put some real winners on during the day.  All I needed was a box of bonbons and I would have been completely set!

Muffin helped sprawled out on the batting.

Baby Updates...

Backtracking to the week before Christmas...

I was 26 weeks at that point and decided it'd be best to take the blood glucose test before all the holiday busyness set in.  I went on a Monday.  Drank the sugar-infested orange drink (I didn't think it was that bad...tasted like really sugary Gatorade).  And waited the hour until my blood draw.  I wasn't sure when my results would be in, but I was nervous for them.  I had heard it's somewhat common to fail the first test - failing the first one, not meaning you have gestational diabetes, but that you have to retest (The retest being a three hour deal - fasting, a fasting blood draw, drinking double the amount of sugar, followed by three more blood draws).

When I saw I had a missed call the very next morning from my doctor's office, I knew.
I failed.  The range needed to not exceed 130.  I was at 138.
The nurse told me it didn't mean that I had it, but that I would need to do the three hour test.  And to pass, would need at least three out of the four draws to not fall in the high range.
I called Steve, crying.  I've been so blessed to have an "uneventful" pregnancy this time around, and getting that call zapped me back to the past few years and all the "bad news" calls.  I, of course, worried about the baby, even though deep down I knew she'd be okay even if I did end up having it.  Steve assured me I'd be fine after the next test and told me to calm down with my blubbering and silly sobs -
"I hope the baby is okay!"  "I know I shouldn't, but I feel guilty!" "Dammit, now I won't be able to eat my mom's Christmas cookies!"

I went back to the lab bright n' early three days later, following the rules to fast for twelve hours beforehand.  They took my fasting draw and then I drank the lovely 100 grams of sugar down.  They offered me one of the little rooms in the back to "relax" in
in-between blood draws.  I was so glad I took it.  They told me I would probably start to feel a little sick and that the baby would be kicking me lots after that sweet concoction.
And did she ever!!
Baby girl was doing the electric slide for a good hour.
I was feeling fine until hour two came along.  I was getting the sweats.  And the sugar, being the only thing in me for the past 14 hours, was doing its job.  I sat fanning myself with my book and praying not to hurl.  If you blow chunks, you're "disqualified" and need to start over another day.  Oh, heck naw!  Luckily, it passed fairly quickly.

And luckily, and so gratefully, I passed all four draws!  No highs.  All normal and one low (exactly when I was feeling like puking)!
When I saw I had results up the next morning, I hesitated before opening them.
I felt so relieved and thankful, I cried (again)!

*We had our 28 week appointment last week.
*Baby girl was kicking wherever the nurse put the doppler.  She was squirming around so much, it took about three minutes for her to get her heartbeat.
*It's almost always in the 140's
*It never gets old - hearing those thumps.
*I'm (baby is) measuring right on track
*I've gained 18 pounds so far
*Still feelin' the energy...back is growing more sore...feeling extra vampire-y
*Doctor visits are now every two weeks

29 week bump shots

Except for the times I went out to clean or run errands,
this is the getup I've lived in for the past three days.
Only appropriate my bump shots were taken in it...

Just a couple days away from 30 weeks!
Looking forward to a weekend filled with more preparations!

Happy weekend!
See ya next week.

New Beginnings...

Our tree is still up.  I came downstairs for one more night of glowing lights and Christmas cookies.  The kitties came down too.  I kid you not, Muffin is literally slurping the tree water as I type - gross.  Tomorrow, our tree will be thrown out the back door, ornaments will be taken down and the decorations will be stored away until next year.  But these memories - they are here to stay.  And the sweet thoughts and dreams we have for next year's Christmas will surely keep us company.

It's been a very productive past few days.  I guess you could say the nesting has begun.  I've been purging closets.  Filling trash bags to the max.  And feeling the excitement of everything coming together as rooms become more and more decluttered and fresh and ready for baby girl.

As I said to Steve, the last week of December -
"Let's enjoy the rest of the holiday and relax, because come January -
"It's on like Donkey Kong!"

So Friday night, when I found Steve upstairs in bed, taking a little snooze at 7:30 (in his boxers),
I blew my imaginary whistle and shouted, "Up! Up! Up!" as I smacked his tush and told him to get dressed.  "I told you, it's on like Donkey Kong, Mr!  You better start eating your Wheaties!"
It was time to go paint shopping.
It was time to start the nursery.

He sleepily jumped into his clothes while grumbling to himself.  By the time we were in Home Depot, staring at the hundreds of paint samples in front of us, he was awake and ready.  And we were both feeling it - a giant slap of  AHHH, we're starting baby girl's room!!

And since that night, it's been on.
We taped.  Steve painted.  The room was emptied of everything but all things baby.  He put the crib together.  The rocking chair and dresser are in their place.
He told me I'd cry (happy tears) when I saw the paint in the sunlight first thing yesterday morning.  It was beautiful...exactly what I hoped for.  I didn't cry then.  But I did tonight.  I sat in the rocking chair and got lost in a dream as my feet pushed it back and forth for a good twenty minutes.  I came downstairs.  Kissed Steve without saying a word.  And dreamt some more about all the love we'll put into that room this month.

A week into 2013...
It's been good to us.

We rang in the last of December and the first of January with Jen and Sean.  They slept over.  Steve grilled steak and chicken outside in his slippers.  We stayed in all night...eating, playing Taboo and Cranium, watching the Walking Dead marathon and reminiscing over the past years.

We raised our glasses for a toast.  Jen "cheersed" to "Maria's glass finally being filled with water this year!"  And I happily and so gratefully sipped my sparkling water out of a wine glass for the rest of the evening...taking in the night with people I love.

Sean wasn't ashamed to get stuck with the pink glass (plastic dollar champagne flute)!

Our favorite picture of the night.  Sean's face is priceless.

New Year's bump

And kiss

We decided to play girls against boys in Taboo.
It was fun pressing that buzzer on Zesty.

Buzz.  Buzz.  Buzz.

Could I have had 4 more perfect cards in a row to describe to Jen?!

They brought us to our second win in a row.
Girls Rule!

Next was Cranium...
Our dough was too crusty and dried out to use the "Sculptorades" category, but that just made more room for "Humdingers!"  Sean's version of Love Shack is incredible.

One last zombie marathon episode.  And then to bed...at 3:30 in the morning.

Eggs, bacon and leftovers...our first meal of 2013.

Happy 2013

Friday, Jessica and I spent the day together.  I got to see her pretty, sparkly tree.  We ordered pizza to-go and came back here.  We gabbed - of course.  We ohhed and ahhed over nursery ideas.
We let time get away from us as we always do.

I'm still screaming inside at this incredibly adorable and totally purrrfect teeny, tiny sweater Jessica made for baby.  Not only is that a cat with a ball of yarn -
It's Muffin!!!
She stitched lil' Mins on baby girl's sweater.
I love it so much and can't wait for baby girl to wear it.  I may have to put Muffin in it for now.

See, Muffin - exactly!!

I had to show her.  Twinks was jealous.  I explained to him that he's more a 2T than a 0-3 mos.

I was thankful to spend some quality time with my dear friends during the first weekend of the year.
Saturday, Kelly and I had breakfast together, just the two of us.
We quickly nixed the idea of trying a new place.  Station B is always a good choice.

And the rest of the weekend...
I covered that...
Until the nursery reveal next month, here are a couple boring photos.

This stuff works wonders!

?

I hope the first week of 2013 has treated you well.

I'll see ya later this week.
