Guest Post by Steve - A Letter To My Little Girl

 * Thank you, everyone.  For all of your touching comments and emails on my last post.
It means so much to me. <3

Today...
a post written by my husband, Steve....

"Tuolumne" - Eddie Vedder

To my little girl....

I have waited for an eternity to say those words.  Not because I did not want to.

Because LIFE said it was not my time yet...

But now it is, hunny.

It's less than two weeks before I get to meet you.  Your room is complete and probably the cleanest it will ever be again. ;)  Your clothes are ready for you to wear.  Friends and family are waiting to say hello.

But most importantly, your Daddy is ready to love you...

Music, that you will eventually hear is playing while I type. I don't know what will be playing on here yet though.  I have an uplifting song by my favorite lead singer queued up and ready to go as my inspiration to you.  But I also have the music which got me to this point playing - a mix of emotional/tugging of the heart-strings - based on lyrics and melodies that you can incorporate into your own life - type of music that's dominating my playlist.  But I am not writing this sad honey.  I am writing this as a thank you.

A thank you to you, for coming into my life - into our lives.

It's been an interesting journey filled with love and fun, as well as anger and sorrow.   As you have read through our story up to this point, you will have learned more about your mom and I, as well as about yourself, than most people ever get to see, read or hear. It's because of the love we have for you that we (Ok, mostly mom) put this together for you. This story has been a great inspiration to us both. Your mother's courage to write about this journey introduced us to so many new friends and people with such big hearts. You had already changed our lives YEARS before you said hello to us in person.  Without speaking for your mother, I have grown so much from this experience. I have gained knowledge and insight to topics that I would have NEVER imagined in a million years, nevertheless 4.... I have learned about the strength and determination of your mother (Yes, and sometimes stubbornness).  I have also learned about her love of life, her love for me and her never ending quest to make people happy. I have watched from afar while your mother inadvertently makes someone's day better just by being around them. I see the genuine love she gives others which is accepted and given back tenfold because there was not one ounce of fakeness.

I have watched so many people gravitate towards her like a beacon of love and hope, that the painting in your room should say, "Shine bright like your Mother" because a Diamond doesn't compare. But most importantly, I learned that I loved her more than anything, regardless of what was going on around us, as no matter what, she made me better. She gave me strength to be strong for us, to push through obstacles and jump hurdles to get to where we are right now.

Me telling her today that I think I may see you sooner than she thinks is probably because the anticipation is too much for me... Are there fears? Of course. I have never done this before. Closest thing to you would be a kitten (See every post your mom wrote for details), but of course there is no comparison. Your arrival gives me my next big quest, to help guide you in life to be the best person possible, just like your mom and sometimes me too.

Here are a couple of items high on my list...

I will teach you about Music... Classical Rock, modern rock, old school rap and hip hop, the "Grunge" era, 80's and 90's music.. I'm sorry, but you will hear the banter your mom and I have about Country music soon enough...

I will show you everything there is to know about professional sports, well, really just NY Yankee Baseball and NY Giant Football (Yes, some Dan Marino history too). You will be a Fantasy Sports God!

You will learn about Broadway Plays and Musicals, how to take public transportation and where to get the best food in New York City.

Video games will be something you will want to TRY and beat me at, but unfortunately not succeed, I'm sorry hunny...

I will also teach you about history and school studies and how important the information is to you whether you believe it or not.

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO READ A MAP! (Your mom is still learning)  :)

I will try and help you remember all of your HUNDREDS of "uncles" and "aunts" throughout the world, but that will be a tough one.

My goal is to help give you all the tools in life to make educated decisions of what and who you want to be as well as how to have fun but know when to leave...

My job as a father is to protect you from danger, but not shield you from LIFE.

I will teach you:

How to drive. How to not break someone's heart.  How to want to help others and be friends with everyone.  To say thank you and you're welcome.   How to move through a crowd.  How to look into someone's eyes when talking to them.  How to not be shy.  How to know if someone is not a good person.  R-E-S-P-E-C-T for yourself and others. (SING IT!)  How to be street smart.  And that common sense will get you further in life than people accept or realize.

Above all...

Know that I will be with you every step of the way...

I love you.

Daddy

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

That was so beautiful!! Had me crying until I started laughing at the part where daddy will teach her how to read a map since mommy is still learning! You two are already such amazing parents and this little girl is blessed beyond words. I wish you only the best and for the next couple of weeks together be cherished as a couple before you become a family. This is the time of your life you will remember forever. It will be something that always brings a smile back to your face when you share it with others later. It will always be something you will remember. God Bless you all!

Oh. my. goodness. Started crying (like a baaaby) on the first line. This is so, so, so beautiful. The things he said about you, Maria, just seriously made me melt. He loves you, and obviously baby girl, beyond measure and I think there's nothing sweeter than a daddy's love for his daughter. All the things he wants to do with her...just SO sweet! She is one lucky, lucky little girl to have you two as parents. Shoot, I wanna have you two as parents! I'm lucky just to call you a friend :). Hope y'all have had a fun, festive weekend! Sending lots of love your way...rest up pretty momma!!!

I admit that I had to wait until a good moment to read this letter because I knew it would make me cry. I was right, but the tears were happy ones :) She is going to treasure this letter forever. Felipe and I both loved it, and love you guys. Love and hugs from PATS/SOX land ;)

Oh my gosh, you two are the perfect match and it's completely evident online, and I bet even more so in person. Your sense of humor comes through (like your wife's) but your sense of caring and love for your wife and your baby is not said exactly the same, but it feels exactly the same, if that makes sense. And oh my gosh again on the sign change ('shine like your mom'), that is THE sweetest thing, ever. :)

So happy you guys are on this journey together, and I think you hit the nail on the head about Maria. You noted how people gravitate to her in person, and I think the same is true online, we gravitate to her through the blog because she is so real. I love this place. And I love that you guys are a couple. And I love your post! :)

So so sweet! I keep saying it, but I am so thrilled for the journey that is ahead for you and confident that the journey that has led you both to this place will only make you stronger parents. Can't wait for the post with pictures of your baby girl!!
