Am I The Only One

"Am I The Only One" Dierks Bentley
"Well it was Friday in the p.m.
And just like every weekend
I was ready to throw down
Yeah I get a little tore up
So I call my bros up to meet me out on the town"

Ok, so I'm not meeting my homeboys and planning a night of beer chugging contests or anything...but this song just makes me sing out loud and dance in my car like a nut every time it comes on. I love Dierks.

I just finished wolfing down a salad made from all the leftovers of last night's fajita dinner. It was almost as good as a $5 box from Taco Bell...
Almost.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out my plan for the night. With only having 4 offices (hooray for me only having one extra) to clean and then ten days of freedom, I'm thinking I wanna knock em' all out by tomorrow morning.
That way I can relish in the fact that we have the next week and a half together.
Together.
Together. We so need this little staycation/spontaneous/do as we please/anything/anywhere goes kinda break.

I just received a text from Steve a bit ago.
It said, "Am I allowed to watch the Yankees/Red Sox game at Doug's tonight with him and Josh?"...
Don't you love how he asked. I can just imagine, Steve sitting at his desk at work, answering calls, with his cell phone is his lap. Hoping. Praying. Wishing that he gets a "Why, of course you can sugarpiehoneybunchface" response.

The answer...

"Of course you can babe, you deserve it!!"

His response...

"Awesome"

It's an early Friday night and as of lately, Friday nights mean we order take out or cook a quick n' easy dinner and watch movies together until one of us falls asleep. After a pretty emotional and busy week, we both need some down time. And just like I know how wonderful some good ole' "girl time" is for me, I know Steve deserves and will benefit from a "guy's night".
Isn't it funny how different girls and guys are?!

Us girls, we like to sit around our tables with our hands clutched around a nice glass of wine or a hot cup of coffee...call our appetizers, "tapas" because it makes us feel fancy, share our most intimate secrets and ambitions, cry, hug, laugh, talk about silly things, like - how we hate our thighs or badunkadunks as we end the night with a brownie induced coma.

Guys, on the other hand...
They like to gather their butts on the couch, rip open a few bags of greasy chips, crack open a few cold brewskies and scream at the dudes on tv.
They give each other big, strong bear hugs if their team wins and only cry like a buncha babies if their team loses.

Girls don't get it and guys don't get it.
But we do understand and never underestimate the power of time with friends. And the power it has to feed and heighten our souls.
Or in guys cases - their guts and Fantasy Baseball Leagues. ;)

Yesterday, I spent the day with Jessica. Time just seems to go by way too fast and we somehow felt like the 6 hours together was not even close to enough. Maybe it's because when we talk, we talk about one single thing for a good 49 minutes...maybe even 2 hours. For instance, we could see a block of swiss at the grocery store and all the sudden, we submerge ourselves into a cheese-tastic chat about our favorite queso. What cheeses we hate...What cheeses we just saw on sale at our local grocery store...What cheeses we like on our pizzas...What kind of cheese we read Jennifer Aniston prefers on her nachos. Yep, that's us in a nutshell. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Me and Jessica in town for some coffee :)

Me and my "Voila! Cinna"- Hi Jessica ;)

Now, when Steve texted me...basically asking if he could swap our usual date night-in for a boy's night...
The Steve-arino knew what he was doing.
He knew there was no way I could possibly say no.
Not after all he did last weekend and surely not after the fantastic dinner he cooked for me, my Mom and my friend, Jessica.

Last night it was girl's night at our house and Steve played chef. He made chicken fajitas and us ladies had a nice n' relaxing evening catching up...and heck, even Steve did too. Steve's a talker. So, he has no trouble sitting and gabbing away with us.
We lost track of time and realized it was close to midnight.  Time flies when you're havin' fun.

Jessica is a fellow crazy cat lady! :)
Her and Muffin

Me Jessica and Mom

HA! Not so sure what's happening here but I love it!

Twinkie being one of the girls.

It is a little insane to me, how in a matter of four days I can feel completely different. But then again, I am more than a little insane myself. I know a lot of things don't last forever but I'm going to use this happy day to take out my energy on tackling most of the offices and afterwards, enjoy the rest of the night...whatever that may be.

"Am I the only one who wants to have fun tonight?"

I'll be stopping in for a possible late night Sunday post and will be sure to still find blogging time on our time off. Come on now, you didn't really think I could ignore all you beautiful people, now did you?! :) And, I think blogging is one of my new bff's...so surely, I will be returning!!
Everyone, enjoy your weekend and whatever you do, have a blast!

*Wow...I just realized, I didn't even mention the subject of infertility/loss/sadness on this post (Um, Maria...you just did!  Ok, ok...but only a sentence)  ;)  Not gonna even think about it tonight!
oh and ps-miss aunty flow is gone...I know how much that made your night ;)

"Come on come on
Get your good time on
Let’s have a little fun tonight"

Lots of Friday lovin' Girls and Boys,

New follower! Thank you for the blog comment. Staycations are awesome! My husband recently took 2 weeks off just to spend time AT HOME! People thought he was crazy. But, he works 12 hour days and usually longer than that and goes days without seeing his children. He deserved that time off! I hope you have a wonderful break with your husband!

Maria -

I love the guys/girls comparison! So funny (and true!). It makes me miss my girlfriends - I could use a good "tapas" circle to cry, laugh and discuss my body dismorphia! :) You're lucky to have such great friends close to you!

Oh, and by the way, THANK YOU for all of your sweet comments on my blog. I feel like I need to dedicate something to you because you are just too nice! :) lol Enjoy your vacation!
