"You and Tequila" Kenny Chesney feat. Grace Potter
I'm not sitting here sippin' on tequila or any alcohol for that matter. I'm just feeling pretty mellow at the moment. This song pops on the radio almost every time I'm in my car lately...it's so pretty (well, at least to me). It's 1:11 (make a wish) in the morning and my eyes are surprisingly heavy. Normally, the night would still be young for me. So, instead of attempting to write all that I'd love to...I'm going to wait til tomorrow, when I can keep my eyes open.
I was rummaging through old boxes over the weekend and found a paper from high school...one that a teacher gave our class at the end of the year with inspirational excerpts.
I thought I'd share it as it definitely left an impression on me today, more than it did 11 years ago. It was a paper titled...
The Rules For Being Human
1.}You will receive a body.
You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours
for the entire period of this time around.
2.}You will learn lessons.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal school
called LIFE. Each day in this school you will
have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may
like the lessons or think them irrelevant and
stupid.
3.}There are no mistakes, only lessons.
Growth is a process of trial and error :
Experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as
much a part of the process as the experiment
that ultimately "works"...
4.}A lesson is repeated until learned.
A lesson will be presented to you in various
forms until you have learned it. When you
have learned it, you can then go on the next
lesson.
5.}Learning lessons does not end.
There is no part of life that does not contain its
lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be
learned.
6.}"There" is no better than "here"...
When your "there" has become a "here", you
will simply obtain another "there" that will
again look better than "here"...
7.}Others are merely mirrors of you.
You cannot love or hate something about another
person unless it reflects something you
love or hate about yourself.
8.}What you make of your life is up to you.
You have all the tools and resources you need.
What you do with them is up to you. The
choice is yours.
9.}Your answers lie inside you.
The answers to Life's questions lie inside you.
All you need to do is look, listen and trust.
10.}You will forget all this.
Cherie Carter - Scott
Much like #3, I have to tell myself this so often when I'm banging my head against the wall, month after month with failed attempts. And when I take a deep breath, I see it clearly...all the trial and error is getting us there.
#7 hit hard too...how many times are we quick to judge and then stop ourselves and think, "well I can't really talk, now can I"...
#10 has so much truth to me. Even though most of these are so easy to read and think, "well of course, I knew that already"...they are so easy to forget. In times of trouble and heartache our problems can swell up so big inside of us that we forget to pay attention to what really matters. We forget that we are responsible for our actions and how we react to what is thrown at us each day.
I could keep writing now that I'm in the groove, but I'm trying to be good and get some rest. This weekend was a good one. It was productive as much as it was unproductive. It was emotional and mellow at the same time. It was relaxing as it was trying.
This battle can get the best of you some days.
This battle can make the best of you some days.
In these lessons I'm learning, I know that it's okay to have up n' down days...one minute happy...next sad. One day crazy. One day sane.
It's a constant fight to feel human...to feel like I'm not going out of my mind sometimes.
And the days and nights that are filled with tears of every emotion feel good to me right now. I have to trust that they are going to someday bring me to more happy tears than any. Did you ever notice it almost feels addicting to just "feel"...to not feel numb. This weekend has opened up my senses even more...the couple runs I went on felt wonderful and I plan on some more when I wake up.
"One more night could kill me, baby
One is one too many, one more is never enough"
"When it comes to you
Oh, the damage I could do
It's always your favorite sins
That do you in"
Okay, it's time for me to catch some sleep. I have some more miles to run. I will be back later, my friends! Thank you all for your amazing words! <3
Happy Monday!!
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
I hope that the "lessons" you learn today are good ones...and ones that you appreciate! <3
Goodnight!
Twinkie, Krimpet, Muffin and I on sleepy, Saturday night <3
See you very soon! <3

I love these lessons :) and I'm glad you had a good weekend, can't wait to hear about it. Oh and I LOVE tequila lol
What a great post! I like #7-10. Isn't it funny how in high school we think we have life all figured out? It's true when our teachers told us things like this. Xoxoxoxoxoxo
Great post! I need to remember all these lessons, but number 6 is the one that I often forget. The whole way to and from my scan today I kept saying "cherish the moment cherish the moment" lol (I'm a crazy lady!), so I thought it was fitting that I came home, logged on, and read this post! Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful week =) Love and hugs~~
Don't you wish you could choose your own life lessons sometimes! But I guess we wouldn't choose the lessons that we may need to learn or that doesn't stretch us. I agree with #3. The good, the bad, make us what we are today. Hopefully for the good but it can be hard. Thanks again for always leaving me such sweet comments. I am not as together as it may appear. I had a bad day yesterday after learning of an old friend's miscarriage. It threw me right back into all the emotions and sadness. So tough! I hope you are having a wonderful day so far. Hugs!
Hey hon! I love this post -- this is sooooo true! I had wanted to share some inspirational words with you when I read your courageous post about considering a sperm donor, but everything I tried to write just seemed trite in the face of your huge decision. But these sentiments are beautiful!
I am thinking of you! Keep on keeping on!
Hugs, Jenn

Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog! I have been reading through yours a little bit and realize we have some {crappy} stuff in common! I struggled with my fertility before my first. We've had 8 pregnancies since then, one was a molar pregnancy which needed to be treated with chemo, but 4 of them were/are amazing miracle babies! God is so good and I will pray for you!!! You can email me if you need some encouragement!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog. I am so sorry for your losses, I wish this life on no one. Your blog is so inspiring and this post has planted some seeds of thought in my brain. Thank you. I hope you don't mind if I add you to my list of blogs I follow.
